Switchgear / Tap Switch Catalog Overview
TYPE “RS” Rotary Switches
Roman Type RS1, RS2 and RS3 heavy duty Rotary Switches are complete units with front plate and position selection handle. These switching devices are specifically designed for the conditions of industrial use, providing a long operating life while requiring low maintenance. Design features include low operating torque; high pressure line contact; flame retardant, non-tracking insulation and precision manufactured non-ferrous components. All customer contact surfaces are silver plated. Type RS Switches feature a fiberglass reinforced base for high strength, precision contact alignment and light weight.
Current Rating
Type RS1, RS2 and RS3 heavy duty Rotary Switches are rated for a Continuous Current Rating based upon a 40° C temperature rise in a 40° C ambient. Proper application requires adequate lead wire size. Undersize wire will cause excessive heat and reduce switch life.
Voltage Rating
All standard RS Type switches are rated for 600 Volts 50/60 Hertz AC, 600 Volts DC. Higher voltages, up to 15 KV are available upon request.
Front Plate
On standard RS1, RS2 and RS3 Rotary Switches, positions are indicated by sequential numbers, S/P (Series/Parallel) and OFF as applicable. Alternate identification can be supplied upon request.
Handles
Type RS1 switches (1 Phase) are supplied with a pistol grip handle. Type RS2 and RS3 switches (2 and 3 Phase) are supplied with a “T” handle. Both the pistol grip and “T” handles have provision for a padlock. A “Low Profile” handle is available on certain RS Type switches. For availability contact factory.
Terminals
Standard RS1, RS2 and RS3 switches are equipped with straight terminals, including the common terminal(s). Also available are 45° and 90° terminals (See Ordering Information).
Optional Features
Cam activated auxiliary switches for position change or position indication. These SPDT switch contacts will change in the first 10 degrees of handle motion. 15A at 480V AC.
Mechanical Interlock – Must pull pin before operating main handle (1 SPDT or DPDT auxiliary switch included with mechanism – 15A at 480V AC)
Provision for 1 or more Key Interlock(s) (Supplied by customer)
Motor Operators, with position indicating and reversing capabilities.
Special Applications
The basic design of our heavy duty rotary switch lends itself to numerous special modifications and arrangements; series/parallel switching, generator winding controls, motor reversing, polarity reversing, etc.
